Hello, I am planning a trip to the South of France after spending a week in Paris. I%26#39;ve been looking at places to stay, either hostels or renting an apartment. I%26#39;ll only be there for 4 or so nights, so I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s worth renting an apartment though.
If I%26#39;m flying in to the Nice airport, and want to see everything that I can possibly see in those 5 days, where would you say would be a good place to stay? Of the musts includes St. Tropez and Monte Carlo.
Where would you say a good central operation should be to stay? Nice seems to be in the geographic middle. I%26#39;ve heard nice things about Villefranche-sur-Mer and Menton.
Of the things I really want to see besides those 2 are Menton, an Italian town such as San Remo, Cannes, and some others. Tell me what you think, Thanks!

We%26#39;ve just returned: stayed just outside Grasse @ franceriviera.net/siteeng.swf.........goodlo… from which to travel east or west.......this time we we visited Nice, Cannes, Eze, St. Paul de vence, Biot, Monaco/Monte Carlo, and also Aix-en-Provence and Arles to the west........(my daughter and son-in-law drove to St. Tropez along the coast..........I%26#39;d rent a car (auto) with a GPS..seaside traffic is beautiful but time-consumeing...........the pay highway (A8) is easier and saves you a lot of time.......if you go into Italy a little bit, beyond Ventimiglia, using your GPS, locate Dolceaqua and Apercale..........very, very nice.........if you go to St. Tropez, along the coast, it takes quite awhile, is pleasant enough but may be foggy. A friend suggested taking the pay highway to St. Raphael and then the pedestrian ferry to St. Tropez (http://www.tmr-saintraphael.com/)

when are you visiting?
Nice is a good base but on a 5 day trip i would personally think st tropez was a bit too far for = though there is the option of taking a boat from mid June to end of September the crossing is 2 and a half hours which probably beats the time by road.
