I was in Maison Fort from 1955 to 1956, working as a clerk typist in the Signal Corps office there. About 8 to 10 people lived there in tar paper huts fired with coal heaters. The Army let us %26quot;fix up%26quot; our huts and we had some skilled carpenters (DC just to name one)in our hut won we usually won the best hut award. We also had a Hungarian native who was fluid in 4 or 5 languages who brought us ham sandwiches and vouvray wine from downtown Orleans.
Looking back, it was a magic sort of time--taking leave time and weekend trips around France and Europe, and spending time with the many wonderful French people who worked a Maison Fort.
Would love to hear from anyone else who remembers this era.

I was stationed at Maison Fort in 1956, we lived in quonset huts. Then Harbord Barracks was ready for occupancy and we moved there. I lived and worked in Harbord Barracks, since the personnel office was located there also. It was indeed a magic time, especially for a single young woman in France. I took the train to Paris every chance I got!

I was there from 1960-1961 and I remember well the %26quot;Jambon%26quot; sandwiches and the Vouvray wine which was local and delicious. I have been trying to remember that name for years!
I had a GREAT time there and was fortunate enough to have a car. Went to Paris at least twice a month. Had friends in Blois and Meung-sur-Loire...fantastic old towns. Fantastic castles in the Loire Valley. Went to Normandy (Fecamp), stayed in a B%26amp;B there and the proprietress loved Americans so much she wouldn%26#39;t let me pay! My, how times have changed.

Contact many of the Signal people through the One-Oh-Duece, I%26#39;ll be glad to help you.
I was stationed in Heidelberg %26#39;54-55 and at night we connected with Maison Fort as they were the last station oo our General Electric Microwave link and we tested the connections, often via the teletype connections. Do you remember it?
