Bus schedules and fares

Hi there

I%26#39;m trying to find out the bus schedules and fares from Avignon to surrounding places like Gordes and Arles. However, the only website I found is the TCRA website which, from my very limited french, only operates within Avignon itself? I%26#39;ve also found some backdated information (from 2002!) that suggests that to get to Gordes from Avignon, I%26#39;ll have to take a bus to Cavaillon?

Hiring a car is not an option so I would really really appreciate if someone could give me some pointers about public transport in the Provence area. :D

Thanks very very much!

I suspect that the only bus to Gordes is one from Cavaillon. Your best bet is to email the tourist office in Gordes.

The best site fr locl bus services I%26#39;ve found is www.infociao.com though I see they%26#39;re now linking a bit of it to lepilote which I don%26#39;t find very good personally. However this site doesn%26#39;t list any bus routes to Gordes, though it lists loads of other useful services.

You can get the train from avignon to Arles.

You might want to consider doing a coach trip round the Luberon.

You can get trains to quite a lot of places from Avignon including Arles, Cavaillon, Tarascon, Nimes and Orange. Information on timetables is available by clicking Horaires Seules on www.voyages-sncf.com

Try this for bus transport between towns and villages in the Vaucluse:

www.vaucluse.fr/1119-recherche-de-lignes.htm

It looks like you%26#39;re right and there is a service between Cavaillon, Gordes and Roussillon (line 15.3) However, my reading is that the only way to do this in one day is to arrive in Gordes at 10.55 and leave again at 12.10, during school holiday periods only, by prior reservation. This sounds so complicated - have I mis-interpreted it?

If you search this site, you should find links to private companies which run tours of the Luberon villages - there might be a link to them from the Avignon Tourist information website too.

If you don%26#39;t want a car, would bike hire be an option?

Diz has the correct website but I use this variation:

www.vaucluse.fr/86-reseau-departemental.htm

While bus transportation is available virtually everywhere near and around Avignon, limited schedules and infrequent service make trying to use this mode of transportation as a tourist very impractical. Additionally, the schedules are available only in French unless you contact the Avignon Office of Tourisme with specific questions about service and even then you may not like what you learn:

http://www.ot-avignon.fr/

Frequent trains are available to Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Nimes, and Marseille but if you are absolutely unable to rent a car, I suggest you hire a driver (the Office de Tourisme has details) unless you have a great deal of time in which to explore the region.

Hi guys

Thanks so much for the help! The websites look so much much current than the ones I%26#39;ve come across! I%26#39;m really hoping that I don%26#39;t have to hire car/driver and be able to do this on my own... we%26#39;ll see :D

Thanks again!
