Sightseeing the day of Paris Marathon in April

We will be in Paris the day of the Paris Marathon (Sunday) in early April. Could anyone recommend something to do so as not to run into the runners or the spectators? Our hotel is in the Latin Quarter, apparently not near the running route. I thought of going to Versailles but I don’t know if many other visitors would have the same idea. I don’t want to lose an entire day (or even a half day) of sightseeing even though we will be there 6 nights. Maybe a museum or two away from the crowds?

I think it%26#39;s possible to be in Paris and not even realize there is a marathon. It happened to us.

There isn%26#39;t going to be that big of a crowd except right along the running route, maybe some businesses, shops, restaurants just off that.

You could go to Montmartre and Opera Garnier, explore Pere Lachaise cemetery, or go over to Montparnasse tower (maybe you could see some of the run from up there!), visit the catacombes, and relax in J. de Luxembourg...

Here is the route, in case anyone wants to see it:

As noted, the running of the Paris Marathon is hardly noticed in most of the city. So simply avoid outdoor activities along the route of the race-- http://www.parismarathon.com/ --and except for the press coverage on the evening news, you probably won%26#39;t even notice that there%26#39;s anything out of the ordinary for a Sunday in Paris going on in the city.
