I am interested in visiting St. Malo. When would be the best time to go (climate, slow season, festivals, etc)?
What would the weather be like in May?

Hi, we visit St Malo every year and it is my favourite place in France. We have visited every year for the last 10 and now love to take our children. In July/Aug there is a great buzz in the town. Very busy with street entertainers, artists and events such as a great pirate festival last year. However, you may also find that parking is difficult and hotels busy (book ahead).
We have also travelled at the end of May (Spring Bank). At this time the town was a lot quiter and we really noticed a difference in an evening with a few of the restaurants closed or closing early and not a lot going on in the streets.
With regards to the weather I think it is a bit unpredictible - like the UK! In both May and July/Aug we have had a mixture of showers, rain, wind and glorious red hot sunshine. Having said this at no time has the weather stopped us enjoying St Malo and the surrounding areas. There is so much to do, towns to visit, restaurants to eat at, and lovely places to walk round that you will enjoy it no matter what the weather. Finally, I dont know if you would fly or drive but a car is recommended to see all the surrounding areas. If you do fly there are 2 or 3 car hire companies in St Malo.
