What to wear to dinner - Michelin 3 star restaurant

Hello ! I will be travelling to Paris in March with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have been to Paris twice before and have dressed well and have found this has had a positive influence on how we have been treated. I have no desire to offend and would appreciate some advice from Parisians or ex-Parisians about the correct dress code for special restaurants ie 3 Michelin Star establishments. Is it cocktail, or long. or is just %26#39;elegant%26#39; OK? Thanks muchly!

Just elegant will be the norm, although cocktail could be okay, if you felt like getting dressed up for your celebration.

Dress like you would for a special event and look beautiful. There are too few opportunities to do that. Some restaurants still have rules re. coat and tie. Check in advance. My husband once was %26quot;kicked%26quot; out of les Ambassadeurs at hotel Crillon even though he looked very nice. Unfortunately, me too by the same token.

If you are travelling from Australia, the weight of your baggage becomes a consideration. It is hardly worth carting around clothing to wear for just one night.

I have dined at Guy Savoy wearing a conservative blue blazer and tie, with my wife wearing a nice long dress. We were treated with great courtesy, and did not feel out of place. Both blazer and dress could be worn routinely, and so did not constitute extra weight to drag around as we toured France.

Elegant is fine. I have never dined in the evening as we prefer lunch (cheaper too!) so I don%26#39;t know whether people wear cocktail dresses in the evening.

My husband usually wears jacket and tie, and I have a silk dress which rolls up to virtually nothing, so no extra baggage.

We dined at Guy Savoy this summer and there was an American couple on the table next to us, he was wearing blue jeans and she was wearing culotte shorts, to be honest, they didn%26#39;t look entirely comfortable. There was also a large party of %26#39;media%26#39; people in the private dining area, and the younger men favoured dark jeans, dark blue blazer and white shirt (a %26#39;yachty%26#39; look), and all looked fab and very much at ease. This was at lunchtime though.
