Traveling to Paris, only 2-3-4 days ?!!!!

I, just read on this forum that some people traveled from Philadelphia to Paris for only 3 days...and rented an expensive apartment to stay in...also paid more than $2000.00 for airfare...

I look at it this way, the 1st day you spent traveling overnight so you lose a day...the 2nd day you will spend sleeping due to jetlag...the 3rd day you are running around Paris trying to see everything during that one day...the 4th day you have to pack up and go home...so why do you need an expensive apartment for your stay ??...you only need a cheap hotel to sleep, change clothes, and take a shower...I could never understand why people do that...anyone have a comment on this topic or can explain the reason behind this ??

To me a vacation is a minumum of 2 to 4 weeks...Paris is the type of city that you need to relax and take the time to enjoy and tour it...

any comment is welcome...

We were there for 5 days, and did everything we planned on doing, and then some, and did not feel rushed. I posted the (fairly long) list in another thread a day or two ago. We hit all the major sites in the city, and a few smaller ones as well.

Next time, we would stay for a week and get an apartment, as you can save much time and money by cooking your own food. You can eat out easily in Paris, but eating out well in Paris is generally expensive.

The first day (same day as the flight) we took care of errands- got our museum passes, Metro cards, some snack shopping, and just oriented ourselves to the neighborhood. Went to one small museum in the neighborhood. Had dinner, went to bed at 10 PM. No time wasted.

Day 2, we were up and ready to go. The secret to overcoming jet lag is to just stay up. Do not take a nap.

because they%26#39;re not like you?

everyone has different motivation for travel, different style and incomes.... There are people here who would never stay in anything less than a hotel with 5 stars for 800 euros - I like hotel prices that start with 1 and have 3 figures! But, when I%26#39;ve gotten the $188 rtp weekend deal on American to London, I have stayed in hotels that cost more than the flight, per night....

I cannot fathom why anyone would fly to Mexico or Jamaica and stay in an all inclusive - or stay in Cancun, but the people who travel like that just arent like me and would never be traveling WITH me!

my first 5 trips to Paris were for a weekend or shorter - I was en route to/from the family I lived with in Biarritz, or to/from some apartment/house my parents rented or on a weekend break from school in London.

Some people just don%26#39;t have the time, but they get off the plane ready to go, and take the latest flight back to get as much out of the last day as possible. It%26#39;s amazing how much you can enjoy !!

I think some people don%26#39;t realize how much there is to see in Paris. I notice people regularly on this site who say they will be in Paris for a couple of days and want to see all the major sites. They just have no idea.

Also, I guess if you have a lot of money, the hotel price is relative. I can%26#39;t relate to that but I do see lots of people on this site who are willing to pay a lot more money than I could ever pay to stay in Paris.

Well some people dont want to,or just cant spend more time in Paris.

Paris for me is a stop over en route to see my two sons who live (2 different countries) over that side of the world. I only get to see them once a year and time with them is more precious than spending more time in Paris.

We were away for 5 weeks in 2008, of that we only spent 4 days in Paris, did exactly what we wanted there and I love it but come holiday time it is not my priority.

We dont pay huge amounts for hotel rooms,IMO I cant justify the price when we are only ever in them to sleep.

But many friends spend huge amounts as thats what they want to do on their holidays, each to their own I say.

If you stay one day or 30 days you still have to pay the same airfare...

If you stay in a cheap hotel you will save lots of money...

food shopping, cooking, and washing dishes there is no way I would do that on my vacation..

renting an expensive apartment for watching tv and using the computer...I can do that at home all day long...

A vacation is total relaxation away from the regular routine at home...

eat out 3 times a day...breakfast for 2 people is 8 to 10 euros each...lunch is 10 to 15 euros per person...dinner is 25 to 35 euros per person...total is 100 to 150 per day for two people...

have a great vacation everyone...

Even the Lord gives us free will. We don%26#39;t all see the world the same way. Everyone gets to enjoy travel--and how they spend their time and money--in the way that best suits them. You can have your opinion but it doesn%26#39;t make it more right than someone else%26#39;s.

There is right and wrong in the world but how you choose to travel doesn%26#39;t fit into those categories. Enjoying travel is about personal choice.

Airfare is so expensive, and for us on the west coast, the time to get to Paris is so long( hey I know about the poor Aussies too,, note, they never fly into Paris for the weekend either! LOL) that I would not fly in for less then a week, In fact my shortest trip to Paris was 9 days,, I personally do find the first day tiring,, and I like to take my time sightseeing, the Louvre is an all day destination for me, but, I am well aware there are people who will happily schedule the Louvre , Orsay, and Arc De Triomphe all in one day.. then maybe something else in evening.

As noted, we are all different, and we also need to remember that people from East Coast can fly into Paris in about 5 or 6 hours, which is not bad . I would consider a 3 or 4 day visit if I only had a 5 hour flight.

Money is another issue, some of us have more and some of us have less, and thats that. I personally COULD afford to stay in a more expensive hotel if it was a priority to me, but, its not, I would choke handing over 300 euros a night for a room, but, I would consider spending that or more on a really nice dinner. Everyone has their thing.

I do find it a bit sad when someone says %26quot; I was in Paris before for 4 days, so where in France should I go now%26quot; ... like their 4 day trip showed them all of Paris, but, some people really are more restless and do like to go go go , and thats that also.

cocoloco, you too might enjoy a couple of days in Paris, in a chic flat or hotel. Just as someone here who mentioned %26quot;all inclusives%26quot;, might enjoy a few relaxing days on a gorgeous beach. More often than not, one is able if one is willing.

From the east coast, it%26#39;s actually about 7 hours or so, but it%26#39;s still doable for a long weekend. But it only makes fiscal sense during the Oct-Nov low air fare season.
