Ski via Ferry.. one non-skier. where to go??

My wife can no longer ski (and walks poorly) but I%26#39;d love to take my little girl skiing. But I don%26#39;t want to leave my wife behind.

Has anyone ever done a trip like this... probably to france so I can drive and keep half-term (or early Easter costs down. Maybe stay somewhere away from resort, to keep cost down and where my wife won%26#39;t be bored stiff, so I can drive to resort for perhaps 3 or 4 days - and have a couple of days elsewhere.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I%26#39;m not sure how far you want to drive, but Nice is very handy for the downhill and x-country ski resorts - Auron, Isola2000, valberg ,Valdeblore Gréolières les Neiges and also - casterino, st martin vesubie etc

here is a list of ski resorts easily reached from Nice-

www.provenceweb.fr/f/mag/outdoor/ski.htm

most are on public bus routes so the journey costs one euro [but you need to book the bus at the bus station or by phone at least the day before ] there are also special ski trains and buses

Nice is a lovely place to wander around for non skiers. Its also fairly flat, compact with plenty to do and see and the weather is almost always good -bright and sunny though not necessarily warm in spring.

You could think about staying somewhere like Bourg St Maurice. If you stay in the town that would be fine for your wife while your daughter and you could take the funicular up to Arc 1600 and ski Les Arcs. There is a regular poster here, Jon, who has a place in BSM and could give you lots of advice if the idea appeals.
