Hi. I am taking a trip to South West France area in May with husband and two small kids. Have seen photos of a beautiful part of this area with cliffs, gorges etc, very unspoilt, but did not get name of area. Can anyone help?

Hi,
You need to go to the area they call the golden circle locally around the dordogne.
This is the area of Sarlat - Le roq Gageac - Baynac - Castelnaud la chappelle - Domme.
I visit this area about 6 times per year from Dublin so if I can help please just reply.

Thanks so much for your reply. We are planning to stay just outside the village of Les Eyzies - do you think this is a good base?

Lez Eyzize is a fine town/village with plenty of historic sites in the area.
You are 29km from Sarlat and the surrounding villages.

You might be interested in our website pictures of this area including some rather hair-raising drives through gorges.

We loved the Dordogne area, with a wide variety of places to see and things to do, varied scenery including the gorges, a number of very steep villages including St Cirque Lapopie, Rocamadour and Beynac and then going on to Millau for the beautiful viaduct (a personal passion)and the gorges du Tarn

The food of the area is rich, duck and goose foie gras, lots of confit of duck and duck breast, even duck gizzard salad, rich dessert wines such as Montbazillac. Sarlat itself is a delightful market town with a medieval centre.
