Hi
Was just wondering if anyone had ever made a stop over on the way to LDA. We are driving from Calais and would really like to not do the whole journey in one go. Any advice on a good place to rest our heads gratefully appreciated.
Many thanks

Hi
We always stop over on our way to the Alps. If you use www.viamichelin.com you can get an idea of journey times. Not knowing when you arrive in France makes it difficult to tell where you might get to. For typical family run hotels I use www.logis-de-france.fr. Otherwise for a basic franchised hotel I use campanile hotels. If you want just a room with en-suite and no frills you could use Etape hotels but IMO they are a little like a prison, I used them last year when we arrives at 10.30pm and left at 7am. One of my favourites are Relais du Silence which are on www.silencehotel.com. I hope that helps.

Sorry forgot to say make sure you go via Reims because viamichelin has a habit of routing via Paris.

Hi JBart
Many thanks for your help, will look into all those suggestions.

That also work well on the way back.
We drive there in one go, but coming back we still ski until at least 3 pm and then leave a resort on the half empty roads.
We usualy stop over in Lyon at the friends, but one can go further North and stop in one of the suggested hotels. Etape and Formula I are indeed like a prison and smell of cigarettes, but if nothing else available, you will survive.
Good luck!
