Internet Access In Paris

I am planning a 10 day trip to Paris and am very dependent on using my laptop. I will need a reliable Internet connection at least 2 hours a day.

Preferably I would rent an appartment in Saint Germain rather than stay in a hotel and connect from within the appartment rather than have to go to an internet cafe.

I have heard horror stories from other business travelers dependent on their internet connections in Europe.

Any recommendations on finding appartments with absolutely reliable and fast internet connections?

Our apartment said it had it, but access ended up being pretty dodgy and if we had not had a cable to connect it would not have been possible, despite saying it had wireless. There was a bitter complaint from a previous tenant in the guest book. He had received no help from the agency re this.

You may also need to ensure that the connection is free. Many hotels offer it but then charge quite large amounts to use it, say E5 per half hour. Others ration it to one hour free and so on.

So you need a really reliable and truthful agent who can ensure you get what you need. Look to the TA reviews for agents that are trustworthy.

We stayed in a Hotel in St Germain and wireless internet was free for the whole 4 days we were there.

We were able to use our laptop in our room, the connection was fast and very reliable.

We rented an apartment in the 1st; it had Internet but was plug-in modem. Worked like a dream, it was wonderful to be so connected back home as phone calls are more unreliable and expensive. And it was free with the apartment. Only problem was the one computer and three kids squabbling over it in the evening!

I also stayed in a hotel in St Germain (very much a budget one - €80/night) and had free wireless internet access in my room.

We will be staying in Citadines St. Germain.

They say they have free internet access.

Does anyone have experience with the internet access there?

I will be relying on it to watch my beloved Sooners play for the College Football National Title ...

Nearly all the city parks have a %26quot;Zone WIFI%26quot; as do the public libraries. It%26#39;s free and fast. Also, as far as I know, all the McDonalds that have a dining area have free WIFI. I duck into them to check mail all the time. I have an iPhone and am out and about in Paris every day and I%26#39;ve found that I%26#39;m seldom out of range of free WIFI.

There%26#39;s also pay services all over the city. I%26#39;ve yet to find a dead spot where Orange or one of the others doesn%26#39;t provide coverage.

As far as apartments go, I think testimonials on TA are the best you can do.

I was typing when you posted. We stay at Citadines hotels all over France and we%26#39;ve had 100% success with the internet service at their hotels.

Citéa also have free internet access (wired) in many of their appartment buildings - it%26#39;s included in the price, and I%26#39;ve never had problems with it. In addition to wired internet access in the rooms/apartments, they may also have wireless access in the lobby.
