Hi, I really need your help... We are heading to Paris at the end of January for 3 nights to celebrate my 30th Birthday.... What is the best loction to stay in, both 1st timers in Paris... I would love somewhere with great bars/restaurants etc.. I understand that nowhere is great for all sightseeing - is close to the Eiffel Tower a good area? Budget in the region of € 200.00 per night, I%26#39;d prefer a botique hotel - not essential to have breakfast included but would like a bar in the hotel..
Thanks so much for any info you can give me...

The Eiffel Tower area is relatively quiet, and can be very romantic for some. However, it is not %26quot;central%26quot; to everything.
Your best bet is to find a hotel in the 5th or 6th arrondissement, which is right in the middle of everything.

I´d stay at the 9th area, very well located and communicated, if you are looking for bars and restaurants plenty of both parisian and multicultural ambiences. You can try at Cosy%26#39;s Residence (Rue Cadet), very nice appartment where you can also be self-catered or pop out for nice restaurants at Rue du Fabourg Montmartre and Grands Boulevards, or at Opera Pulitzer Hotel; both are money value for Paris standards. Try beers at Au General Lafayette and enjoy tour birthday!

Hi, I also think that the 5th or 6th would suit you. There are many hotels to choose from, Hotel Parc St-Severin in the 5th is nice, might want to check it out.

And also Henri IV Rive Gauche Hotel in the 5th.

We stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel in a fabulous location (unfortunately only for one night on our way back from Italy). It is called Villa D%26#39;Estrees (website www.villadestrees.com). It is really lovely, with large rooms that are beautifully decorated. There is a lounge in the hotel, but it%26#39;s not really a bar. There is one, I believe, in its sister hotel across the street though, and an Irish pub two doors down.
It is located right on the border between the Latin Quarter and St. Germain (the 5th and the 6th), very close to the St. Michel metro stop. There are many shops, bars, cafes, creperies, etc. around, and it%26#39;s on a lovely old cobblestone street called rue Git Le Coeur (right near the Seine).
It%26#39;s a great location for sightseeing as it is close to Notre Dame, Ste. Chapelle etc. and you can still walk to the Louvre, Musee D%26#39;Orsay etc. If it%26#39;s too cold, you just hop on the metro.
Have a nice trip.

innaMontreal recommended Hotel Parc St. Severin, and I%26#39;ll second that recommendation, it%26#39;s a fabulous little 3-star hotel, fantastic location near Place St. Michel (just across the river from Notre Dame), near dozens and dozens of bars, restaurants, cafes, etc., yet still surprisingly quiet despite being in the middle of one of Paris%26#39; busiest sections.
It does not have a bar, but there are SO MANY bars within a 60-second walk, you won%26#39;t need a hotel bar.
Their smallest rooms are quite small, but my wife and I love this hotel, we%26#39;ve stayed there on 3 separate occasions.

I would recommend basing yourselves in the 5e, 6e or 4e arrondissements. In these areas there are good choices of bars, restaurants and cafés and most of the popular tourist attractions are accessible on foot.
The Eiffel Tower is in the 7e arrondissement which tends to be rather quiet and residential.
Bon anniversaire!
