Mountain Swimming, and a dramatic train ride?

Hello.

We are staying near Calvi for the first two weeks of June and will be hiring a car. I have read about mountain rock pools that can be swum in - can anyone recommend any?

Also I remember reading about a dramatic mountain train journey in Corsica, but cant remember where it was?

Many thanks, Catkinbrighton.

Don%26#39;t know much about mountain rock pools - don%26#39;t like cold water!!

The Corsican railway has a station in Calvi - in summer there is a fairly frequent service between Calvi and L%26#39;ile Rousse calling at Algajola and many small villages and beaches - don%26#39;t expect much comfort but it%26#39;s great fun. There are two trains a day from Calvi to Pote Leccia from where you can get to Bastia and Ajaccio. The most spectacular parts are between L%26#39;i Rousse and Ponte Leccia and between Ponte Leccia and Vizzavonale. Train times from www.corsicabus.org

Yes, I can recommend three great places you can swim in the rivers near Calvi...

Nearest is the Foret de Bonifatu. Take the road past Calvi Airport and instead of turning right to Galeria, go straight on to Bonifatu. There is a big car park there and you can swim in the river that you reach by heading down the path *at the lower end* of the car park. About 10km from Calvi.

Next, (a bit further) try Tuarelli on the River Fangu. Take the road to Galeria as far as the big bridge just outside the resort. Go left at the Tourist Office after the bridge and head up the river valley. There are great places to swim there.

Finally (if you dare drive there - it%26#39;s a terrible road and quite far!) go to Speloncato, then on to the Foret de Tartagine, deep in Corsica%26#39;s interior. There are pools you can swim in on the Tartagine river.

The best section of the train ride by far is the bit between Ponte Leccia and Ajaccio. It%26#39;s worth driving to Ponte Leccia, or you%26#39;ll be on the train all day. Enjoy! DTR
