payment advice

Good evening,

I just wanted to ask other TAs when you book accommodation I know a credit card is always asked to secure your booking. Is it a common practice to be asked to give your security code, and is it safe to do so via email. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

It is not unusual to be asked for the security code on an internet transaction.

It is fine to give the information if you are filling out a form on a secure web page. If you are sending in an ordinary email, I would be inclined to split the card information over two messages.

thank you sydneynick I will do that.

I should recommend in the strongest terms that email is not a safe method with which to send sensitive information and that you never enclose anything which you do not want to make public in an email. If someone has access to one email message, he has access to them all. Splitting information into separate emails guarantees nothing.

If you must send a credit card number, either call, mail, or fax the information.
