Me and my boyfriend will be in Paris from Tuesday until Friday next week and are looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner on thursday as it is my birthday. We need somewhere that is a little bit fancy but serves not too fancy food as I am quite a fussy eater (no seafood and really the only meat I eat is chicken). We will be really grateful for any ideas!!!

Try Atelier Maitre Albert in the 5th at 1 rue Maitre Albert. The day you get to Paris, call and make a reservation at 01 56 81 30 01. First seating is at 7pm. You likely won%26#39;t eat there without a reservation. And it is a courtesy to make a reservation anyway. They%26#39;ll speak English easily.
Order their chicken (poulet). All their meat is spit-roasted. The chicken comes with fabulous mashed potatoes. Your boyfriend can have veal, beef or fish if he%26#39;d prefer. Really nice restaurant that won%26#39;t cost the world.

I was about to say the same thing as HappyGoin. Atelier Maitre Albert is a GREAT place for a celebration. It%26#39;s got great food, great decor and a wonderfully happy service. You will be happy there...good chicken is their specialty.

Sounds good! Thanks for your help! One last thing - what kind of clothes are suitable for wearing out for dinner? Are the men ok in trousers and a shirt or are they better off in a suit?
|||
No, a suit is absolutely unnecessary. Just wear nice clothing; we even wore jeans one night. Note, they were nice jeans with proper shoes and nice blouses/sweaters. No need to dress up. Enjoy!

He may feel more comfortable wearing a sports coat for dinner, especially with jeans. There were times I felt out of place with just a sport shirt or casual jacket.

This restaurant seems to get excellent reviews on TA so we may try when we are in Paris this week (pending how expensive our other meals turn out to be with the weak pound!).
Can someone tell me if they do set menus and how much they are as well as the approximate price of their house wines. I have looked at their website but this info is missing.
Many thanks

Troubleonline, they don%26#39;t do a set menu. I can%26#39;t tell you about the cost of wine, because I don%26#39;t drink it, so I didn%26#39;t look at the price. I can tell you that a Kir Royale is 14E. But they use a very good Champagne in it. Sorry I%26#39;m not more help.

Maitre Albert did have a %26quot;daily special%26quot; type of prix fixe menu the night we were there (which was a Monday night in September) but there was only one option for each course (no choice of app or entree) and that didn%26#39;t appeal to us, so we didn%26#39;t have it and ordered off the a la carte menu instead. The set menu was on a card on the table top as I recall, not on the menu itself.
|||
Forgot to post about the price of the set menu--since we didn%26#39;t order I%26#39;m not recalling the exact amount but my (admittedly vague) recollection is that it was in the 30-35E range.

Hmmm...maybe they had a price fix menu when I was there too and I just didn%26#39;t notice. I%26#39;m sorry if I was mistaken.
