Hello People, im going to be coming to Paris in the next few weeks. Im going to be doing the tourist thing, seeing all the sights, but I want to hang out in a few pubs and mingle with the locals as well. Can anyone recommend a few places??. My French is non existant, as Im trying to learn the pleasantries at least before. I know how frustrating it can be for both parties in my city when someone is asking for something and cant speak a lick of your language and your unable to help them, so please keep that in mind. Im always up for meeting anyone thats cool. Im an Electrian, so places that would have more of blue-collar atmosphere, as opposed to hanging out in a suit and tie. Not that Im opposed to that, but sometimes my wallet is opposed to the real expensive drinks, haha. Even though Im a tourist, Id rather not hang with the tourists, so I can get a better feel for the real people of Paris. Not really looking for dance clubs, more of the places where you can get a beer and talk to people without having to shout, thanks!!

I love this place! Au Metro, 66 rue Raymond Losserand, 33-1-40-44-50-65. Website: aumetro.fr
Metro: Pernety (Line 13) It%26#39;s a sports bar with great inexpensive food and good reasonably priced drinks. Because it is in the 14th arrondissement, it is more a place for locals than tourists.

This place is not really a pub...it%26#39;s a small restaurant and bar. Mostly wine and cognacs, beer is small bottles of Heineken. You can have a few drinks, or diner, whatever.
A couple of blocks from the Place du Republique, down the Boulevard du Temple, is the circa 1850 Cirque d%26#39;Hiver - i.e., Winter Circus. Now, you%26#39;re a thirsty clown, between acts, where do you go for a quick vin du pays or marc? What%26#39;s this, LE BAR DU CLOWN??? Wonder how it got that name.
The round, wooden the Cirque d%26#39;Hiver is mainly used as a concert hall and venue for fashion shows today. The clowns have gone to comedy-slapstick Valhalla, but their watering hole still exists, doing just fine. It%26#39;s packed with locals and technicians working the shows, and the occasional stray tourist. The first time I sat at the small zinc bar, within an hour Le Patron/Barman was generously offering me free samples of 8 and 16- year-old Calvados. Try telling those two apart. Not easy, especially when you glance up at the ceiling with its hand-painted Art-Deco clown-motif ceramic tiles that are supremely hilarious. It was all I could do to remain on the stool.
That was the first of several visits to this local landmark - small, crowded, noisy, and superbly kind to itinerant étrangers. The menu is quite reasonable and delicious, I had grilled sliced-pork and mustard sauce with tartine for dessert.
There%26#39;s plenty of different varieties of wine, champagne, cognac, and beer to keep any clown in good cheer but it%26#39;s the staff and atmosphere that make it really unique.
And that%26#39;s no joke.
LE BAR DU CLOWN
Address: 114, rue Amelot, 75011, Paris
Next door to the Cirque d%26#39;Hiver. Ceramics.
+33 1 43 55 87 35. Open from Noon to 3PM and 7PM to 2AM. The food served in this absolutely beautiful room is classic French. The decor is classic Circus, which makes sense since it%26#39;s just two doors north of the building which has traditionally housed circuses passing through during the winter. The %26#39;%26#39;formule%26#39;%26#39; for lunch costs 13.50 Euro, while the dinner %26#39;%26#39;menu%26#39;%26#39; is 18.50. Ordering %26#39;%26#39;à la carte%26#39;%26#39; will cost you around 22 Euro..
Metro : Filles du Calvaire (Line 8)
Seats : 30
Closing days :
Lunch : Sunday
