Dordogne in March

We are planning on visiting the Dordogne in mid-March, and I am concerned about places being open. We were hoping to stay in Sarlat and spend time visiting villages in the area. We will be driving from Bordeaux, and are now wondering would it be better to stay in Bordeaux if hotels/restaurants/shops will be closed at this time. Do you experts have any advice? Thanks in advance.

Many places (but not all) in the Dordogne will be closed until Easter, which will be in April this year. You don%26#39;t mention how much time you have for your trip. The Sarlat area is still worth a visit, so if you can, spend a night or two there. Sarlat is a 2-3 hour drive from Bordeaux, so not really a daytrip if you want to see anything. Many places have websites, so you can check to see what will be open ahead of time. Guidebooks or tourist offices can let you know what day of the week different villages hold their outdoor markets (year round). Sarlat%26#39;s large market is on Saturday morning, and takes up most of the medieval area.
