Paris...where to stay?

Going to Paris in early February...would like to stay relatively close to the tourist traps - Eiffel tower, etc. but also be able to get around without a car easily. Any recommendations that won%26#39;t break the bank?

First, do not stay near Eiffel tower as it is not central, look at the map and it is way on the left.

I would recommend you pick Le Louvre as your tourist trap it is in the !st arrondissement which is the most central. This said there are many places within walking distance, stay near Louvre and the Seine and look at map before deciding.

okay...thanks for the info! I appreciate it.

You may want to consider the Hotel Vernet. 8th arrondissement near Etoile, between the Champs- Elyees and Avenue George V. Near the Arch de Triomphe.

|||

okay...thanks, I will look it up now

Stay near the Ile St. Louis. The Eiffel Tower area is not all that nice.

We just got back from our first trip to Paris. We stayed in the 6th, near the Sorbonne, a few blocks from Notre Dame. It was a great location. Easy access to the Metro, and many restaurants and cafes around. Don%26#39;t even mention car.

Definitely not renting a car!!! What hotel were you at? Were you in walking distance to attractions?

|||

What %26quot;area%26quot; is that considered when I am looking things up? What hotel were you at?

|||

The Sorbonne is in the Quartier Latin (5th) near St-Germain-des-Prés (6th). Both areas are nice, they%26#39;re on the left bank, where they are closer to the Seine river it is more central.

If you disclose your budget people can suggest hotels. If you don%26#39;t already have a map, get one, it%26#39;ll be easier.

How about an island on the Seine, just west of Notre Dame? It would be walking distance to quite a few tourist sites as well as restaurants on both the right and left banks of Paris.This may just be ground zero for torists visiting Paris.

There are four hotels on the Ile St. Louis: Hotel Lutece, Hotel Deux Iles, Hotel St. Louis and Hotel Jeu de Paume. Lutece and Deux Iles are owned by a M. Buffat who owns two other hotels, the Galileo in the 8th and the Henri IV Rive Gauche in the 5th. If any of these appeal to you then check the TA for recent reviews.
