Mobility scooters in paris

I am planning a trip to Paris and would be interested to hear of anyone%26#39;s experience using an electric scooter on Eurostar and in and around the city. I also have a fold up wheelchair and am wondering which will be the best option. We especially want to stay around the Jardins de Tuilieries area and to visit mainly museums, art galleries and a bit of shopping.

Thanks for any help.

I have vsited paris several times using a manual wheelchair. It is not the easiest of cities for wheelchair users and you will see very few disabled people in paris. However if you have someone with you to help you will be able to do a lot. The louvre and musee d%26#39;orsey are accessible and i am sure other museums are also, you can check this. I found the big shops ok but a lot of the small ones had steps up to them. The metro is not accessible but I believe some buses are. Toilets in restaurants are often not accessible.

In general the footpaths and road crossings are good and well dished.

I am stil looking for an accessible hotel and it is proving quite difficult so if you have any ideas on this I would be grateful. This time I am taking my electric scooter with me so will need a lift big enough to hold this.

Good luck

Thanks for your help. I%26#39;m going with two friends and we%26#39;ve decided that a manual wheelchair will give us more flexibility - and is less likely to break down on me! But I%26#39;m going to keep an eye out and see if it%26#39;s possible with a scooter for the future. We have booked a hotel which says it%26#39;s accessible and I%26#39;ll report back on how good it is.

I would advise you to take the manual whellchair. Also the Louvre is quite wheelchair -unfriendly so ask them the map of the Louvre for wheelchairs, as not all lifts stop at all floors, you have to make an itinerary first.

i am looking for scooter hire information in Paris so if I get it i will pass it on. You could then have your manual chair but have the choice of a scooter

I am also looking to hire an electric mobility scooter in Paris to use at Disneyland Paris (they only have manual wheelchairs there). So far I%26#39;ve only found access.tourisme.service@wanadoo.fr who want 240 euros for 5 days which seems extortionate to me. Any info would be gratefully received!

If you bring your electric wheelchair be caregful as to how and what you need to plug it into electrical outlet. If you do not do it correctly you ca fry it. I think the fold up wheelchair might be a better choice.

take along with u the manual wheelchair just in case. alternatively, you can be sure of getting a good, portable and affordable electric mobility scooter at http://www.electricmobilityscooters.biz

they stock the best

Paris is not easy for people with reduced mobility.

It is already hard to roll your suitcase on some streets. Bring what you are comfortable with and stay on large and wide boulevards and avenues. Avoid the %26quot;rues%26quot; as they are narrower.
