Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain & London

Hi everyone

I%26#39;m planning a 4-5 week trip to Western Europe this June and am feeling a little overwhelmed with the planning process, so would appreciate any advice I can get!

The places I would like to visit are:

1. Italy - Rome, Florence, Venice (1 week)

2. Switzerland - Lucerne, Zurich (3 days)

3. France - Paris, Champagne (and not sure where else - haven%26#39;t done my research yet) (1 week)

4. Spain - Madrid, Barcelona, Seville (1 week)

5. London (4 days)

I will be flying in from Australia and would like to end my trip in London (I%26#39;m pretty sure my flight back to Australia has to go via London anyway). At the moment, I%26#39;m thinking:

1. fly into Zurich, train to Lucerne

2. train to Venice, train to Florence, train to Rome

3. fly from Rome to Spain (not sure which city)

4. fly from Spain to Paris

5. travel around nothern France by train

6. fly from Paris to London

I guess my questions are:

(a) does my itinery seem logical?

(b) my research shows that trains can be more expensive than flights, although I understand that some of the budget airlines use smaller airports which can be more out of the way sometimes - what do people think about train vs flights for the above legs?

(c) any other suggestions re my itinery?

Thanks in advance - I think it%26#39;s a bit vague, but I%26#39;m suffering a bit of %26quot;don%26#39;t know where to begin%26quot;..!

it could also be done in this way

fly into Rome, then florence, venice, switzeland and train from zurich to paris, fly to spain and fly to london

usually train is cheaper than flight execept if you find connection with low cost airlines (easyjet, ryannair) but with these companies often does not include all extra taxes in the prices indicated so you really need to check it.

for italy and spain that is great ..Zurich present not many interest (except for banks!) in my opinion why not to go near the leman lake (geneve lausanne),

for france champagne area might not be the most interesting area to visit (unless if you don%26#39;t want to miss to visit wineries) you can try also normandy or loire valley for the casttles

I%26#39;d do the Paris London leg by train, most people find it more convenient as you don%26#39;t have to trek to or from the airports and the prices are pretty similar to flying. Apart from that your itenary looks ok to me.

Hi, i%26#39;m doing something similar to you... except i%26#39;m skipping spain... my itinerary goes something like this:

1) Rome - 4 days

2) Pisa/ Siena - 2 days

3) Firenze - 2 days

4) Venice - 1 day

5) Milan - 2 days

6) Lucerne/ Interlaken/ Jungfraujoch/ Geneve - 4 days

7) Champagne (Reims) - 1 day

8) Paris - 4 days

9) London/ Bath - 4 days

flying back from london... :) going by train most of the way... got a 6 day eurail select 3 pass as it%26#39;s cheaper to buy a point to point ticket for local trains than using the pass...

i know i%26#39;m squeezing in too much... but we figure since we%26#39;re still young and have the energy, so just do it... haha...
