We will be in Paris in July and plan on visiting frineds in Zurich as well. What is the best way (cheapest and fastedt) to get between these cities. My husband, myself and our two children (11,14). Thanks

The train option could be cheaper than the plane + will enable to see surroundings. The journey is around 4h30. A 2nd class ticket is around 100 Euros one way, full rate. If you book early enough, you should be able to get 50% off. Do some research on these forums on how to get the cheapest train fares and how to buy tickets from abroad.

Otherwise, you can fly with Swiss Air or Air France.

I am assuming that is a fast train. All I could find was a 10.5 hour trip. Do you know if it is better to buy on line or when you are there? I am also assuming that there are discount rates for kids.

I can find at least two trains taking a bit over four hours on the official French train web site: www.voyages-sncf.com

Not even before the new high speed line was this trip so long.

The earlier you book, the better your chances of getting a cheap ticket are. If you aren´t in Paris 2-3 months before you travel, your best option to save money is to buy online.

There are several direct high speed trains with a 4.5 hours journey.

Buy online is probably the best option. Buying locally will be more expensive.
