Hi
We are planning to go to Paris and Lyon this April - just wondering about advice on Lyon (we know Paris quite well).
Family (2 teenage children who need to pracitse French).
Any ideas of where to stay? Where to go? And what to eat?
Many thanks

I suggest that you start with a little search by yourself, simply browsing Lyon forum and these 2 websites:
http://www.en.lyon-france.com/
www.lyon.fr/vdl/sections/en/tourisme/histoire
You will find plenty of hotels and restaurants recommendations, according to your tastes and budget, and then you may come back for advice.
I usually recommend to choose a hotel in the Presqu%26#39;île, that is the part of the city located between the Rhône and the Saône rivers. But as you expect your kids to speak French, a B%26amp;B may suits your needs better? Tell us what your teenagers are interested in, there is plenty to do and to see in Lyon : exploring the roman ruins or the Renaissance district inner courtyard, strolling in the stunning %26quot;traboules%26quot; down Croix-Rousse hill, searching the painted walls, going to the miniature museum, etc etc.
Plenty of choice regarding meals as well, Lyon has plenty of restaurants for any taste and any budget, you will probably try the local %26quot;bouchons%26quot; and the quenelle speciality. You will find my favourites on this forum too.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. My teenage boy is into Art, while my daughter like history - I think we will find plenty to do.
My basic question is advice on where to stay. We would like a B%26amp;B, but in an area where there are plenty of restaurants to got out at night. I am not sure how big Lyon is, but we like to walk, so somewhere we can just fall out the door into a selection of restaurants, and then I will look for B%26amp;Bs in the area.
Also, how long is the train ride from Paris to Lyon
Many thanks for your time

Don%26#39;t worry, you will be able to walk everywhere if you stay in the city center. Your teenagers may also like a ride, along the new Rhône banks for example, use the Vélov%26#39; bike service; and to get further, take the métro (for example to get to Institut Lumière, the cinema museum).

Regarding B%26amp;B, I usually recommend Bellecour sur Cour and had good feedback from TA travellers:

Artelit is also very nice, but it is not really a B%26amp;B, I mean you have no contact with a family, it is more like a flat rental (you take your breakfast at the local patisserie); have a look:

Just click on B%26amp;B on the accommodation part of Lyon France website, you will find several others. If you want a hotel, do a search on the forum.
Lyon is a 2 hours TGV ride from Paris.

I think I already answered this basic question with my first post: you will find all these requirements staying in the presqu%26#39;ïle or in the old city. Am I missing something?

Hi, we loved your city, I hope you%26#39;re going to love ours; we choose to rent an apartment for the 5 of us, it was great.

Lyon is a splendid city with lts to see. Drop in at the Tourst Office in Place Bellecour early on in your stay, the staff are really helpful and friendly. On food, be adventurous even at modest prices, there are lots of dishes you can%26#39;t get elsewhere.
