We are trying to decide Paris and Nice for a long weekend. Can anyone suggest which would be better? I would really appreciate advice on the best time to go weather-wise and what areas are best to stay in. Suggestions on things to do would be great too! Thanks!!

I don%26#39;t know if you realize it, but what you are asking is that the forum act as your travel agent, do your research, and make all your plans. - Not what the forum does.
Get yourself at least one good guide book and read it - make your wish list for each place as you go through the guide. When you%26#39;ve prioritized your lists, you%26#39;ll know which city is the best one for this trip. Then - you come back to the forum for assistance with specifics.
It doesn%26#39;t matter how long or short your trips will be - what matters is that the trip be planned to meet your specific interests, and that means you have to do some of the work for yourself.

Some of the advice would depend on what type of trip you are looking for. Logistically, unless you are flying, I would think Paris would be an easier %26quot;long weekend%26quot; trip from the U.K.
If you are looking to see a beautiful, romantic, vibrant, and historic city, then Paris is the best bet.
If you want to laze on a beach and get some sun, then Nice in the summer is what you are looking for, however, the beach in Nice is crowded, and rocky. I prefer the sandy beaches at Juan les Pins or Cannes. Be aware that in Cannes, much of the western part of the beach is privately managed for guest of the luxury hotels. The public beach is on the east end.

Paris -- not even a close call IMO.

u34 - Since response to your question has been so minimal, let me expand on my comment above re Paris. I visited the city for ten days in late September a couple of years back. The weather was spectacular and I was able to walk virtually everywhere.
Regarding where to stay, I would highly recommend the 6th District on the Left Bank. A solo traveler, I never tired of just wandering around the winding streets, stopping at the numerous cafes, and enjoying the colors and charm of this %26quot;storybook Paris%26quot; venue. The area bounded by Blvd. St. Germain, the Seine, Blvd St. Michel and Rue Bonaparte is the heart of it IMO.
Paris is a city where one can take advantage of the numerous tourist sites, or simply choose to enjoy the thrill of being in an atmosphere that is most unique. I altered my pattern, spending some days as a tourist, and the others as an ex-officio %26quot;resident%26quot; -- walking the neighborhoods, visiting the marches, enjoying the architecture and atmosphere. Be sure to visit Rue Mouffetard in the 5th District -- a great late morning stoll thru one of the city%26#39;s %26quot;market%26quot; areas, and a chance for an excellent lunch in one of the numerous sidewalk cafes. Hope all this helps.
