For my birthday, I am being taken for dinner to La Colombe D%26#39;Or. This is on the basis of guide books and having walked past it on my first visit to St Paul a few weeks ago. Has anyone any experience of eating there?

The setting/garden is of course wonderful. Other restaurants good but not as romantic.

Yes - %26amp; its a good idea for a special occasion, as the ambiance is great. The food is good too - not haute cuisine, a simpler style, but very enjoyable. I think the whole experience is highly recommended.

A big reason to go to La Colombe d%26#39;Or is to see the fine collection of art given to owners over the years by the artists in return for meals and lodging. You can only see the art if you have a meal at the restaurant or stay at the hotel.

We had lunch here in late December 2008 and it was very nice. The place is charming, the pictures are amazing (it%26#39;s like the Museum of Modern Art collection hanging in a restaurant). I had the hors d%26#39;oeuvres platter which consisted of about 20 different small plates--vegetables, fish and meat prepared different ways. Sort of a tapas platter. It might not be enough for dinner, but it was way too much for one person at lunch.
