avignon to eze

We will be staying in Avignon as a base for a week in Provence, renting a car. We are considering a longish day trip to Eze. (We had been planning to go to Cassis as our trip to the coast, but the village and views from Eze seem even more interesting.) While Google Map directs me on a 2 1/2 hour route which passes north of Cannes and Antibes, I was wondering if dipping south to what looks like a road along the coast through these towns would be worth it in terms of view vs hassle. If anyone has any advice in general on a good scenic route from Avignon to Eze, I would be grateful. Or if you think I need to be talked out of this plan, feel free knock some sense into me.

You do not mention what month you are planning for and it does make a difference. Generally, I should consider Eze too far from Avignon not to mention traffic can be horrible in summer months. The coastal route is quite beautiful but you will need more time than you have alloted.

I recommended staying with Cassis.

I am in full agreement with Sarastro. Forget about Eze.

Instead, have lunch in Cassis followed by a boat trip to check out the Calanques - you could hardly imagine a more wonderful day. Or, if you want to be by the sea but not necessarily on a boat, you might want to consider exploring the Camargue.

Trust me - Eze is way too far from Avignon to be considered as a daytrip destination, especially since you are only going to be in Provence for a week.

I agree Eze is too far. While the view is very good, it%26#39;s not worth the effort to drive all the way there. Eze is usually a sidetrip from Nice.

Agree with the others, Eze is too far from Avignon for a day trip.

Thank you all for your reality checks! I shall look forward to Cassis.
