Villefranche Port to St. Paul and to Cannes

I will be docking in Villefranche on Sunday, June 29. We would like to go to St. Paul de Vence and from there to Cannes to spend some time on the beach. How to you get to St Paul De Vence and then to Cannes and how long does it take. Are there taxis at each place?

From Villefranche you could either get the bus 100 to Nice bus station (about 20 mins, 1 euro), then change to bus 400 to St Paul de Vence (about 1 hour, 1 euro). Alternatively, get the train from Villefranche to either St Laurent du Var (20 mins, about 4 euros) or Cagnes sur Mer (30 mins, about 5 euros) and then catch the same 400 bus from there (about 30 mins, 1 euro). The bus stop at those places is not directly outside the railway station tho%26#39;, so it%26#39;s not as straightforward.

From St Paul de Vence to Cannes is more complicated as I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;s a direct bus between the two places. You could get the 400 back to Cagnes sur Mer and then the train to Cannes. Once you%26#39;ve had your beach time you can get the train back directly from Cannes to Villefranche.

As for taxis, most places, if there are no taxis in the rank, provide a sign with a phone number to call them. Sundays can be difficult tho%26#39;. We once got to Beaulieu (next town along the coast after Villefranche), phoned for a taxi and were told there wouldn%26#39;t be one available for at least an hour. I should think tho%26#39; that Cannes will have plenty of taxis being a large town, and St Paul de Vence, being a major tourist attraction will probably have them too.

Thanks for your help. Sounds a little complicated for about the six hours we have to spend here.

Hi,

I am taking a cruise in a few months and wanted to know if your trip from Villefranche to Cannes ever worked out.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

I would advise the Villefranche St Paul Cannes Villefranche tour only if you want to spend a miserable day stuck in heavy traffic, while suffering growing anxiety about getting back on time. I prefer Eze (10 minutes by taxi) to St Paul and Nice is about a hundred times more interesting than Cannes. I have met more than one cruise passenger who has arrived back in Villefranche just in time to see the ship disappearing over the horizon!

Hi Laderatraveler,

If you are docking in Villefranche and have limited time available and really want to go to Cannes, I would suggest taking the train. It is perfectly possible to get there and back in say 6 hours without undue stress as long as the trains are running normally. You should probably allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the journey.

Depending on what your interests are you might get more out of your available time by staying closer to Villefranche though. Nice has plenty to offer if you want to sightsee and combining a quick trip to Nice with Eze village is do-able.

The beaches in Villefranche and nearby Beaulieu aren%26#39;t too bad. Villefranche itself is pretty and Cap Ferrat is lovely.

I beg to differ with LondonBob that Nice is 100x more interesting than Cannes but I do agree that it%26#39;s probably better not to use up a lot of available time travelling to Cannes if you are on a tight schedule this visit.

I love St. Paul de Vence, but I think it will be risky to work a visit into a six hour time frame. Eze is often visited by travelers docking in Villefranche as it is closer to their ships. Keep in mind that anytime you are taking a train and bus to a destination, you never know how long the connection from one to the other will be. A train from Villefranche to Cannes or Nice would be much easier to plan around and well worth your consideration.
