L'as du Falafel

O M G! It is the BEST falafel I have ever had! In fact it was SO amazing, went there twice! =o) So thank you to all those who recommended this place. Best 5 euros spent! =o)

It IS good, isn%26#39;t it? I don%26#39;t know why it%26#39;s so much better than others falafel, but there you go.

|||

I travel to Paris by myself and I get L%26#39;As du Falafel falafels at the walk-up window several times on my visit. I walk around eating and moaning from the goodness of it all. Simply devine! When I return to Paris on September 10th, one of the first things I will eat is a falafel at L%26#39;As!

|||

I think its the cumin. Nothing here comes close and I%26#39;ve asked them to open L%26#39;As NYC!

Although the Maoz with eggplant (there are 2 now in NYC) may tide you over til your next trip to Paris.

That%26#39;s interesting, evening...I thought it was the hot sauce that made the difference. Cumin huh?

And ILWP, I can%26#39;t walk around and eat the falafel; it%26#39;s way too messy. I find it dripping down my elbow or some such yucky thing :)

I agree it isn%26#39;t easy to walk around eating the falafel. I drip a bit too. I don%26#39;t find it a problem except that I don%26#39;t want to waste any of the falafel! The restaurant used to be pretty dumpy and I didn%26#39;t want to eat there. It has been renovated since I was there and I%26#39;ve heard it is a lot nicer now. I do enjoy wandering the streets of that neighborhood while I eat, however. It is a double pleasure.

|||

It is the white sauce that makes it. Ate at Mi-Va-Mi across the street too and it is excellent as well, but I think L%26#39;as was slightly better

|||

It is definitely the best falafel in the solar system. I think it%26#39;s the cole slaw-like stuff they put on it. It was the best food we had in Paris. I need some now :(

First, the %26quot;white sauce%26quot; is tzaki, which is a sort of yogurt and cucumber and garlic/onion sauce. Sometimes flavoured with mint also.

Second, you all call them Falafels, which is the chick pea paste balls, but I notice in the pictures Pixfield posted they do Gyros also ( the mystery meat on a spit which is sliced off as it roasts), do they do this well also??

I personally think the right tzaki sauce makes all the difference, plus the right pita.

I have never had Greek food in Paris, we have excellant Greek food here so I never have tried it in Paris after once foolishly trying Parisian Chinese(yech). I love the food in Paris, but I tend to eat French traditional , but I must admit after reading raving post and post about this particular place( L%26#39;as du Falafel) I am tempted ...

Then again people do go on and on about Berthillions and I like Amorinos and Haagen Daaz better. !!

I must admit to being a contrarian. Last two trips to Paris I deliberately avoided this place on the theory that I don%26#39;t go to Paris to eat something I can get in Brooklyn where I go all the time. Moreover, anything so many people say they love is probably washed up (e.g., Le Coupe Chou). But I guess I%26#39;ll have to break down and try this place next time. I%26#39;m looking forward to writing a really scathing review. I%26#39;ll be disappointed if it%26#39;s as good as people claim it is. Then my Brooklyn felafels won%26#39;t taste right any more.
