My wife and I are traveling to the Cote d%26#39;Azur in June. We will have already visited Paris and Lyon. Having already stayed in two large cities, does anyone have a suggestion as to a small, quaint town in which to stay? I realize Nice is a must see but I think a change of pace would be a great way to end our trip. We enjoy touring small markets, eating at authentic restaurants and views of the sea.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Will you have a car? If not, Nice is a hub for public transportation, both train and bus, and the little village of Villefranche-sur-Mer is close by and would make a good hub. But so would Nice, which is very walkable, with distinct neighborhoods; it doesn%26#39;t feel like a big city.
You might also consider Antibes, which is right on the coastal train line.

We will not have car. Something near the trains is almost a necessity. I liked both of your suggestions . Thank you

I%26#39;d pick Nice even though its a city-its a strange village-like city - its easier to get everywhere as its a train hub for the local sncf along the coast , into the mountains and there is also the narrow gauge train des pignes which goes inland. [don%26#39;t miss entrevaux]
Nice is also the main hub for buses [inland and along the coast] and the bus fares are ridiculously small at one euro per journey.
Nice has many areas that are quaint -including a mediaeval old town, loads of belle epoque and art deco villas and its very easy to go to other mediaeval towns and village perches in the surrounding areas by public transport.
The sea from nice is particularly beautiful for viewing at any time of year , having a glass of wine/dinner or beach picnics or walking along beach combing though not the best place for swimming [its ok but i prefer villefranche, cap ferrat or antibes since i like to snorkel]

No issue - Nice. From Nice you have convenient and cheap access to many hundreds of other destinations -your only problem becomes , as Microsoftsays, %26quot;Where do you want to go today?%26quot;
Really, make Nice your base, and you can move on to the important question - where today?

Don%26#39;t miss visiting St. Paul de Vence and Eze when you are in the area. Both can be accessed by train and bus. It%26#39;s probably easiest from Nice, but doable from the other locations.
