we will be getting in to the Nice airport at about 6:30pm. Will it be best to pick up a rental car that night at the airport or elsewhere the next day?

That really depends on where you are staying. If in central Nice, does it have parking?

Picking up at the airport means an additional charge, and you probably won%26#39;t need the car that evening. So I%26#39;d recommend getting the car the next day. If you%26#39;re staying in downtown Nice, you can get a car from Sixt or Europcar (reserve through Autoeurope) just below the Le Meridien hotel on the Promenade des Anglais.
