Hello there, we are planning on taking our 4 children (6, 10 and twins 15) to the french alps region for next years summer holiday.
I have fond memories of going there as a school girl many many moons ago and would now dearly love to take my family there. I have visited many touristy regions of france over the years but none have compared to my memories of Annecy, Thones, Megeve and Chamonix.
The plan is to either drive all the way through from one of the sea ports with our own car. Or to do an independent fly-drive.
We would be arriving on friday 24th july, staying for 10 nights, to include the lac festival on sat 1st august.
** Does anyone know of this campsite/holiday park? http://www.camping-la-ravoire.fr/accueil.php
** Does anyone have any other suitable family accomodation they would like to recomend (pref with a pool and activites for the kids)?
** What are your top must see/do%26#39;s in the area for a family with a car?
Im sure i will have lots more questions but thats enough to be going on with for now. Thanks in advance everyone.

I would make sure you book tickets for the Annecy fireworks in advance - and I%26#39;m sure you realise the traffic can be TERRIBLE around that time. Leave lots of time for car journeys within Annecy / round the lake, or hire or take bikes and leave the car on the campsite. There are great cycle paths in the area, and lots of good picnic sites. Dependng on the weather, water and other outdoor pursuits, including boat trips, small beach area in Annecy le Vieux etc etc. Aix les Bains is quite nice too, especially in good weather. Another lovely lake, restaurants and thermal spa.

We are also thinking of visiting Annecy region next summer (mid-August), largely because my wife has fond memories of family holidays there in her childhood too. Our kids will be 11 and 15 and enjoy swimming and water-sports. We like walking!
Would be interested too in any good advice you come across. In particular, for self-catering, we%26#39;d be interested to know whether Annecy itself is best or one of the villages nearby.
Many thanks

We stayed three nights at Hotel Le Lac in Talloires in June this year. Very pleasant, but perhaps a bit expensive for a large family, although they seemed to be kid-friendly. As Talloires is small, we did not have the traffic hassles that were obviously present in Annecy.
One day we caught the round-the-lake ferry, getting off to spend most of the day wandering around Annecy. The other day, we got in our car and wandered around some of the places on the east side of the lake. Very pleasant.

If you spend a day in Chamonix, I suggest the following.
Take the cable car up to the summit of Aguille du Midi. It%26#39;s right next to Mont Blanc and I believe it%26#39;s the highest cable car in the world (3,800 metres). You%26#39;ll be gasping for air at the top but the kids will love it. You travel over a number of glaciers and the views are fantastic. Please note though that even if it%26#39;s 30C at the bottom it will be near freezing at the top so take jumpers.
Take the cog railway from Chamonix to the Mer de Glace, Europe%26#39;s second biggest glacier. Each year a new series of tunnels is drilled into the front of the glacier and you can walk inside. Again the kids will love both the glacier and the cog railway which rises gradually to 2,000 metres.
There is a park in the centre of Annecy which has a toboggan run even in summer. We didn%26#39;t try it but it looked fun.
There are also lots of shops and cafes plus a couple of museums. The scenery is stunning too, and the air is so clean.

Thanks for this. We go to Combloux around the same time and I will definately try your suggestions! I have 3 dare devils who will love it.
