Shopping in and around Calais

We are in Coquelles for the first week in January.

Is it good for shopping? My wife is looking for clothes. I´m looking for music CD´s and Belgian Beer.

Is there a special Winter Sale for clothes after New Years Day. Which shops are recommended.

Google %26#39;Channel Hoppers Guide%26#39; and you%26#39;ll be able to buy one of the best guides for the Calais area.

It tells you everything you need to know about beer, spirits, food, shopping, maps of the area and prices in Calais - and only about £5.

Another useful site is www.calais-guide.co.uk

Auchan and Cite Europe are at Coquelles and they should have most items you%26#39;re looking for.

As for %26#39;sales%26#39; - they%26#39;re everywhere.

There are several Hypermarkets, and beer/wine supermarkets dotted around the outskirts of Calais, and near the Ferry Port.

The centre of Calais has some very nice shops, and good cafes and restaurants. The centre is a bit bland looking (because of war damage I suspect) but this does not really detract from a good shopping experience there.

If you do go in to Calais Centre, be sure to take a look at the ornate Flemish style Town Hall, and the Rodin sculpture of the Burghers of Calais.

The big shopping centre at Cite d%26#39;Europe has lots of boutiques etc for clothes and beer, wine in the supermarket there.

The %26quot;Soldes%26quot; start on Jan 7th this year. These are the official sales (the gov%26#39;t sets the allowed dates) where the biggest reductions are. There may be special offers in lots of shops, but the Soldes is the equiv to British %26quot;January sales%26quot;.

Don%26#39;t forget if you go to Auchan and Carrefour to get a loyalty card from the customer services desk before you go in.

Just like Tescos card here, card issued there and then and gives a discount on future purchases.
