Hi
We are flying into Nice on a saturday staying until Monday afternoon, so not a long time. We therefore would like to get the best out of our time there.
Firstly we thought stay in Nice then thought Cannes would be better as we could visit both Nice and Monaco in one day, by train??
I also think that the shops are closed on a Sunday is this correct??
Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there something you specially want to do in Cannes?
Nice would be a better base IMO as its just a more interesting place and you can go to monaco by bus which is very cheap [one euro] and scenic.
I wouldn%26#39;t want to fit Nice into a half day unless that was all the time available.
when are you visiting? - some shops may be open - touristy type places and small food shops , bakeries and the fruit, veg, fish and flower markets but clothes and shoe shops etc will generally be shut on a sunday.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. There is nothing we particulaly want to do see it is just someone has told us how nice it is, so we thought why not!
We are going at the end of March.

Cannes is ok but its not a place that stands out among so many other amazing places on the coast and does not begin to compare to somewhere like Nice as a weekend destination - especially in March when the summer season hasn%26#39;t started.
Cannes is nice for film buffs to see places from the flim festival and the cement handprints and for taking a trip to the iles de lerins or a bus to mougins or valbonne maybe.

If this your first visit to the Côte d%26#39;Azur then I would recommend staying in Nice. It is the bigger city with much more to see and do and is more beautiful and scenic than Cannes.
From Nice it is easy to do half-day trips to Cannes and Monaco by public transport. You could even take a leisurely walk along the coast road to Villefranche-sur-Mer.
You will find some shops open on Sundays particularly in the Vielle Ville area of Nice and there is also the open air market in Cours Saleya on Sunday mornings.

Hi
Thank you both for your replies, I am sure it will help with our decision on where to stay.
Cheers
