I am staying for 5 days and I was wondering if they swipe youe card upon chack and place a hold on any money on there? If so....how much do they hold?

Email the hotel and ask their policy - it%26#39;s the only way to know for sure.

I%26#39;m not aware that they put a charge on - I always leave a card so that I can use the mini bar/charge purchases back. They do state that if you leave a card though that once you reach a certain limit of charging (think it is 500 euro) then they debit that amount and then let you run up another amount.

Ok thanks...I am trying to lay off the cards really and take more cash so I wanted to know how much to leave on one for the incidentals thing at check in.

Does anyone know the email address for the Newport Bay?

We just got back from the Newport Bay hotel and they didn%26#39;t hold a card back.

Typically, hotels or car rental firms will swipe your card to confirm that your card will be valid in the event it is needed. While not necessarily charging you anything, they are making a claim against a portion of your total credit limit.
If for example you have already charged $950 on your credit account which has a $1000 credit limit, an hotel knowns that your bank may not necessarily approve a $200 charge (taking you $150 over your credit limit).
Most of these reserves against your credit limit are never seen by you but it might be possible, using real time, on line banking to notice your available credit has changed to a degree more than you have actually charged against it.
None of this means that you must ultimately pay with your credit card, you%26#39;ll always be able to ultimately settle your hotel obligation with cash. The process simply assures the vendor that you can pay the full amount they expect you will or might owe.
