Carte Orange

We have old Carte Oranges, but I understand they are no longer in use. We will be coming to Paris in February for 10 days. we will probably be staying in zone 1 and 2. Is it worth getting the new pass for 5 euros and then getting it loaded for a week%26#39;s use? What about just buying 10 ride carnets? Would someone just explain to me what are the choices for Metro and bus tickets in 2009. Thanks.

It would probably pay to convert it over, especially if you may be back soon. We wound up using a 5 day Paris Visite zone 1-3 Pass, due to arriving mid-week. The carnets don%26#39;t make sense to me. A pass gives you ultimate flexibility. You just hop on and off at will. It really frees up your schedule. The carnets just drain the wallet (and the clock as you wait to buy more) slowly.

It depends on how many journeys you are likely to make. A carnet makes sense if you plan to walk to most places or make just one return Métro trip per day, or if you arrive on, say, a Friday when you can%26#39;t get a Carte Orange. Paris Visite always seems expensive to me, but I agree that there is a value in not having to think about how many tickets you have left.

Your %26#39;old format%26#39; weekly CARTE ORANGE transportation pass--orange cardboard, photo-ID card and replacable separate magnetic strip ticket/coupon will become an %26#39;..artifact..%26#39; at the end of this month, January, 2009. The %26#39;old-format%26#39; for the CO pass has been phasing-out of usage since September, 2007...to be replaced by the Navigo-system%26#39;s %26#39;..DÉCOUVERTE..%26#39; reusable (10 yrs...5€), reloadable, access %26#39;device%26#39; was introduced.

With the exception of the change of %26#39;format%26#39; for the weekly CARTE ORANGE and the reduction of Transportation Zones for Paris and the greater Île de France region from eight(8) to six(6)...nothing much has changed.

I was in Paris in late 2006 and we were able to buy an all day pass called a %26quot;mobilis%26quot;. Are these still available? I remember them going for 3-4 euros.

Mobilis day passes are still available - the cheapest one (for zones 1-2) is 5.80 euro.
