Hello all,

Im taking my mum to Paris for a short break at the end of january, just a friday-sunday stay. I know this isn%26#39;t nearly time enough to properly explore the city but any advice you could provide would be fantastic;

My mum has foot problems and walking long distances is not at option so Im looking for a reasonably priced hotel near to the popular tourist spots or with good transport links. We both love montmartre so anything you could recommend there would be perfect.

We aren%26#39;t planning an awful lot in advance as I don%26#39;t want to tire my mum out with a busy itinerary but I would be grateful for any ideas as to places to go which wouldn%26#39;t involve too much legwork.

thanks for taking the time to read this

I surely wouldn%26#39;t recommend Montmartre as a place to be %26#39;central%26#39; nor for anyone with limited mobility.

I think you base yourself nearest the Seine, around Marais, Latin Qtr, the Iles, St Germain.

Don%26#39;t forget about using the bus instead of the metro. Much less walking involved since it%26#39;s all street-level. The best map is (a) free one from RATP - ask for %26#39;grande plan des rues%26#39; that shows some streets with placement of the bus stops... or (b) buy Paris %26quot;le Petit Parisien%26quot; mapbook, looks like this:

Dear rougeur...One of the things you should try is the buses as the metros have a lot of steps and can be difficult for people with mobility problems.

They are easy to use and the routes are posted on every bus stop as well as an electronic counter telling you how long each bus is going to be.

I bought a very useful book, Guide des Autobus parisiens fronm the checkout at Monoprix.

I agree Montmatre is a way out and very hilly, there is public transport but you would waste an awful lot of time travelling on such a short visit.

It depends what you call %26quot;resonably priced%26quot; A cheap central hotel we once stayed at is Hotel Monpensier. It was clean and the rooms were large by paris standards.

It is VERY central in th 1st arrondisement. (In fact if you measured the centre of my map it is there) It is near bus routes so you can get to any place in the city, but you may prefer something a it more upmarket. It would help if you posted you budget.

However that area near the Louvre and Palais Royal is pobably the most central you can get.
